Other: He was called "a mighty hunter before the LORD." It is said that "the beginning of his kingdom was Babel . . . in the land of Shinar." An interesting note is that Genesis 10:11 can be interpreted either that Nimrod went out into Assyria and built Ninevah, which is commonly believed to be the case, or that someone named Asshur built Ninevah (see the King James Version). The only Asshur mentioned at this point in the Bible is a son of Shem, so this latter idea is not an impossibility, although not generally an accepted view.
