The compound umbel of this aromatic perennial is 1 - 2 inches broad and consists of many small, 5-petaled flowers.  Three yellow-flowered species of Zizia and 2 of the closely related Thaspium occur in our area.  This Appalachian species grows in open woodlands, forest margins, and on roadsides in our mountains and piedmont.  April - May [Justice, William S. and Bell, C.
