A camp experience can help counter what has been termed “nature
deficit disorder,” the increasing tendency of children to spend all
their free time in front of a TV or computer screen.
Recent studies indicate that even a fairly small amount of time
outside can sharpen kids’ ability to focus, lower childhood obesity
rates, establish a connection to nature, and allow the youth to use
their imaginations and engage in free play for entertainment.
All
campers are expected to demonstrate integrity, civility, responsibility,
self-control, and mutual respect in all interactions with other campers
and camp staff. No child is
to be dropped off at Harmon Field without being properly registered for
Harmon Field Outdoor Camps and no child is to leave Harmon Field
premises without letting either the camp director or counselor in charge
know that the child is being picked up early. Harmon Field Recreation
will be offering camps for children ages 5-13.
Special needs children will be integrated into the normal camp
setting. Drop-off and pick-up will be at the Harmon Field Community
Building (old Tryon Middle School).
