Unlike Fetter-bush Leucothoe axillaris, the Leucothoe recurva is a low, spreading shrubs with deciduous leaves.  The urceolate or urn-shaped corolla consists of 5 fused petals with only the small, recurved tips separate.  Native to the southern Appalachians, these plants grow in bogs and rocky woods in our mountains.  A somewhat similar species with deciduous leaves Leucothoe racemosa, grows chiefly in our coastal plain and piedmont.  April - June [Justice, William S. and Bell, C.
