The leaves of this native perennial are 2 - 3 or more inches wide and the flower cluster or inflorescence 4 or more inches long.  The stem is conspicuously angled in a zigzag fashion from one set of leaves to the next.  These plants are scattered in deciduous woodlands of eastern North America and are found throughout the state except on the outer coastal plain.  April - June [Justice, William S. and Bell, C.
